Top 7 Levitating Bluetooth Speakers

While magnetic levitation isn’t a new thing, it still is new enough to surprise most people. One great way of doing so is showing off your levitating bluetooth speaker.

Levitating speakers may not be the best out there in terms of sound quality and music listening. But when it comes to the wow effect, they definitely have a lot of potential in them.

If you are reading this, then you probably want to get yourself a floating bluetooth speaker. You are in the right place.

We are going to showcase 7 sets which we think are the best levitating speakers out there. And we’ve also prepared a small guide to help you choose the right floating speaker.

Let’s now have a look at the top 7 speakers, shall we?

Best Levitating Speakers Reviewed

1. ICE 7 Arc Star Floating Bluetooth Speaker

Up first on our review of best levitating speakers is the Arc Star by ICE.

The very first thing that you’d probably notice in this floating bluetooth speaker is its design. It really resembles the Death Star from Star Wars, right? Even the name – Arc Star – is an allusion to the name “Death Star.”

This isn’t an official Star Wars-branded speaker, but if you happen to be a Star Wars fan, this one may be an excellent buy. Even if not a fan of Star Wars, you may like the beautiful combo of the black color and the green LED lights.

In terms of connectivity, the Arc Star speaker can connect with mobile devices via Bluetooth and NFC. Bluetooth is going to be enough for most people, but maybe some of you out there would like NFC more.

A very convenient feature in this levitating speaker is the mobile device charging capacity via its USB port. In fact, you can still use the speaker’s full functionality while charging your mobile device, but only while the base is plugged into a power outlet.

This speaker has an inbuilt 1500mAh battery in it as well, which allows for up to 10 hours of playback. A very decent runtime, mind you.

And yeah, you could also use the speaker separately since it has all the necessary ports. But it won’t be levitating without the base, obviously!

PROS
  • Nice Death Star-like design
  • Bluetooth & NFC connectivity
  • May be used for mobile device charging
CONS
  • Not the greatest sound quality.

2. ICE Orb Levitating Wireless Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The Orb floating speaker also is arguably Star Wars-themed, though it is done less explicitly. The white color with the blue LED lights really gives an R2-D2 vibe here. So again, this levitating Bluetooth speaker may be a great buy for a Star Wars fan.

Other than the design, the ICE Orb speaker is pretty much identical to the Arc Star speaker. Namely, it supports Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, as well as has the same inbuilt 1500mAh battery for mobile device charging. Likewise, the sound quality in this thing isn’t spectacular, so do keep that in mind.

PROS
  • Supports Bluetooth and NFC
  • May be used for mobile device charging
CONS
  • Again, not the best sound.

3. Levitating Bluetooth Portable Speaker by Uppel

This speaker may seem not to differ from the previous two, but it has a couple of differences that may make it a much better option.

The first thing you probably notice is the control panel on the top. Now, this panel isn’t designed for use while the speaker is floating since it would just disrupt its position. But when used separately, the control panel would allow you to control the speaker without you having to reach for your smartphone.

Another difference that may be important for some is that the colors of the LED lighting in the Uppel speaker are actually changeable. There are 7 LED light colors in this speaker, which could add to its coolness factor.

In terms of wireless connectivity, this levitating speaker has only Bluetooth support. Again, this should be good for most people out there. But if you’d like to have NFC instead, go for another product.

The Uppel levitating speaker again has an inbuilt battery, but it has less capacity than the two Orb speakers above. It has 1000mAh versus the 1500mAh of the Orb speakers. As a result, the playback time in this speaker is up to 5 hours, while the ICE speakers could run for up to 10 hours.

This speaker also doesn’t have USB connectors, so it can’t be used for charging mobile devices. But this won’t be an issue for those who don’t need any charging capacity from their speaker.

PROS
  • 7 LED light colors
  • Has a control panel on the top
  • Bluetooth connectivity
CONS
  • No mobile device charging capacity.

4. Esotica Floating Speaker with Bluetooth

This floating Bluetooth speaker appears to be the exact same speaker offered by Uppel. Maybe, it’s just a rebranded speaker, or they are just coincidentally very similar to each other.

Nonetheless, the Esotica speaker has the same features that the Uppel speaker offered.

Namely, it has got the same 7 LED light colors which could add a lot to its coolness factor. Likewise, it again only supports Bluetooth connectivity, which should be sufficient for most people out there.

And yeah, the control panel on the top is here as well, allowing you to more conveniently control the device when it is used without the base.

Lastly, the battery capacity is also the same, that is, 1000mAh. So this speaker can’t charge mobile devices.

So, you want to get the Esotica speaker, but what about the model by Uppel? If they are basically the same, how do you make a choice?

Well, we’d advise you to make a decision based on availability and price. If you see that one of them is cheaper, go for it.

PROS
  • 7 LED light colors
  • Top control panel
  • Supports Bluetooth connectivity
CONS
  • Can’t be used for mobile device charging.

5. ICE Harmony Floating Bluetooth Speaker

If you were looking for a piece to decorate your living room or bedroom with, the ICE Harmony floating Bluetooth speaker may be an excellent choice. Not that the previous speakers looked bad, but this one has a much more spectacular appearance.

The Harmony speaker has a very sleek and bright feeling to it. The warm golden glow in this speaker also seems to be pretty calming. The glow is adjustable, which makes this levitating speaker a very nice bedside companion.

Interestingly, the egg-shaped speaker has a soft cushion on it, which makes it squishy. This is another thing that adds to the soothing capability of the Harmony speaker.

In terms of connectivity, it is compatible with Bluetooth-enabled devices, which should be enough for most people.

But when it comes to overall functionality, this speaker seems to be less versatile than the other two ICE speakers we reviewed at the very beginning. For example, it appears to have no smartphone charging capability. And overall, the battery runtime seems to be rather short when playing music.

PROS
  • Beautiful design
  • May be used as a nightlight
  • Bluetooth connectivity
CONS
  • Short playback time
  • No mobile device charging capability.

6. MARS BY CRAZYBABY Wireless Floating Speaker

And now comes the most interesting product on our list. The Mars levitating Bluetooth speaker is an excellent product, albeit with a couple of downsides.

Let’s start with the good.

First of all, the sound quality in this speaker is noticeably better than in all the other speakers reviewed. It’s crisper and also has a good bass to it. The levitating Craft disk is fairly good at high and mid frequencies, which makes it quite a good standalone speaker. At the same time, the Mars Base is more dedicated to the low-end range, complementing the Craft’s higher frequencies.

Mars also claims that this speaker has lossless audio transmission via Bluetooth, which is another factor contributing to the sound quality.

Overall, this speaker obviously isn’t the best for the avid music lover, but it’s pretty good nonetheless.

The design of the Craft disc is the second good thing in this speaker. It is made waterproof at up to 1 meter, so you could use it outdoors or while taking a shower.

The little action of the disk when on low charge also deserves attention. When the battery life is lower than 20%, the disk slowly lands on the subwoofer base for charging. And once charged, the disk is going to levitate back up.

The Mars Base also has 2 charge-out USB ports on the front which could be used for mobile device charging.

The software in this speaker is remarkable as well. It features things like smart auto volume based on your proximity to the speaker, pairing with another Mars speaker, as well as an equalizer.

On the other hand, the software is buggy, which sometimes causes a loss of connection, for example. In addition, the equalizer is finicky in the Crazybaby software. But if you won’t be using the equalizer, this shouldn’t be a problem.

It should be noted that things have been improving in recent years, but the Mars software still isn’t perfect. The same goes for overall quality control in this device.

The shutdown or startup sounds in this speaker are quite annoying as well, mainly due to their loudness and not that good sound quality. This speaker thus isn’t the best bedside companion out there.

In the end, the Mars Crazybaby speaker really is something. It’s a beautiful piece of machinery, albeit not ideal. If you aren’t really worried about the downsides we mentioned, it may be the best levitating speaker out there.

PROS
  • The floating disk is waterproof
  • A rather good sound quality
  • Has 2 USB connectors for mobile device charging
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • May be paired with another Mars levitating speaker
CONS
  • Issues with quality control
  • Buggy software
  • Makes annoying sounds when starting up, shutting down, etc.

7. SainSonic SS-01 Portable Wireless Floating Speaker

And the last product on our list of best floating speakers is SS-01 by SainSonic.

If you look closely, you may think that you’ve seen a very similar speaker on our list before. And you’d be correct. This speaker looks very much identical to the Ice Orb floating speaker, the one that had a color scheme resembling R2-D2 from Star Wars.

One of the two speakers probably is just rebranded. It is unlikely that the visual similarity is coincidental. But this isn’t a bad thing: you will still have a buying option if the other speaker is unavailable.

Needless to say, the SS-01 speaker is pretty much identical to the Orb speaker in terms of features. Namely, the SS-01 speaker has Bluetooth & NFC connectivity, up to 10 hours of runtime, as well as mobile device charging capacity because it has a USB port on it.

PROS
  • Bluetooth & NFC support
  • Could be used as a charging station for your mobile device
CONS
  • The sound quality isn’t too good.

How do Floating Bluetooth Speakers Work?

You are now probably wondering “How do floating bluetooth speakers even work?”. The answer to this question is pretty simple.

They consist of the speaker itself and a base. Both the speaker and the base have magnets built in them. Basically, floating speakers rely on the property of corresponding poles of magnets (north to north and south to south) to repel each other.

To ensure floating, the base typically needs to be plugged into a power outlet. So no, you won’t be able to levitate the speaker using some metal surface. Well, unless manufacturers of those speakers come up with some new technology to allow them such stuff.

And by the way, the speaker floats over a very specific spot above the base. When setting up your levitating Bluetooth speaker, you’d need to find that spot by following the user manual. Some people find the spot on the first try, while others struggle with it for a little while. But it shouldn’t take too much time.

Things to Look for in Levitating Bluetooth Speakers

Time to find out how to pick the absolute best option. This is crucial because you’d probably want to get a speaker that meets your expectations.

Now, let’s have a look at the things that you may want to look for in levitating bluetooth speakers.

Sound quality

Sound quality is nearly impossible to evaluate without trying out a live speaker. Sellers may not provide you with the required info, or it may be too undescriptive of the actual sound quality.

If the seller of the desired speaker does provide you with the sound specs, pay special attention to them. If you have any specific needs, the specs would give you an idea of whether the speaker is good.

Wattage is another thing that may give you an idea of the speaker’s sounding. Wattage won’t tell you how good or bad the sound is, but it will tell you how loud it is. Obviously, the higher the wattage, the louder the speaker can get.

It would be excellent if you had an option to test the desired speaker before buying. For example, if someone you know has it, you would be able to easily assess its sound quality and decide whether or not to buy it.

Another good option is to rely on user reviews, but they won’t be as reliable as your own impressions. That’s because people have very different tastes: for example, some people may absolutely hate bass, and an overall good-sounding speaker might sound awful for them.

In the end, you may need to go through some trial and error to find the one with the right sound. If the seller allows returns and refunding, you’d be able to do so relatively easily.

If you don’t really care about the sound quality and care more about the wow factor, then don’t bother with the sound specs. Instead, pay attention to other features.

Inputs and outputs

Levitating Bluetooth speakers typically aren’t that rich when it comes to inputs. Commonly, they can only wirelessly connect to mobile devices to pull music from them. So if you specifically need some kind of an input capability, make sure that the desired levitating speaker indeed has it.

As for outputs, some levitating speakers have USB ports in them which allow for charging mobile devices. This is a very convenient feature that may come in handy for some.

Some speakers may also have outputs for TVs or additional subwoofers, but none of the reviewed ones have them, unfortunately. If you want the option to output sound in your speaker, you may not be able to find the right model here.

Connectivity

All of the reviewed levitating speakers are connected to mobile devices wirelessly. Usually, it is done via Bluetooth, which is good enough for most of the people since Bluetooth is available in any modern mobile device and is also convenient.

Some speakers, as you could have seen from our list, have NFC connectivity, which may be more desirable for some people.

Overall, no matter what kind of connectivity you need, make sure that the desired speaker supports it.

Battery life

All the levitating Bluetooth speakers on our review are battery-operated, and thus, an important thing to consider before choosing one is runtime.

Sellers usually provide data on the runtime of their speakers in hours. If you do care about runtime, pick the speaker that has the longest runtime. But make sure that its other features satisfy you as well!

There is one thing to keep in mind with battery life. In speakers with charger ports, the runtime will get shorter when charging a mobile device, unless the speaker is plugged into a power outlet. This is an obvious thing since the battery will not only power the speaker but also charge your mobile device.

Warranty & return policy

There are plenty of things that could go wrong with your floating Bluetooth speaker. It may come with a fatal flaw, or you may simply dislike the sound quality it delivers. In order to avoid being left with a poor device, you should make sure that the seller offers a refund and/or replacement option. Check the length of the refund/replacement period as well.

Design

The cool factor is a major thing in levitating Bluetooth speakers. However, aside from coolness, you should also make sure that your speaker fits in the room you are going to place it in. The speaker itself may look absolutely rad, but it may not have as much of a wow effect in an unfitting setting.

Feedback of buyers

The feedback of the buyers is exceptionally important to consider as well. Those who have already tried the product will most likely have some very useful information for you.

There are plenty of things that you may find out from user reviews. The list starts with sound quality and ends with minor or major downsides. And those may really play a role in your decision-making process.

Should you get a levitating Bluetooth speaker?

In the end, should you even get a floating Bluetooth speaker? This will depend on what you are expecting from such a speaker.

Levitating Bluetooth speakers typically don’t deliver too great sound quality. If you are looking for excellent sound quality, then you most likely won’t find the right model from the current assortment of levitating speakers.

There are a few good speakers like Mars’ model we reviewed, but it is pricey and probably not as good as a regular higher-end speaker.

Don’t get us wrong, levitating speakers can deliver good sound quality. But nothing exceptional.

The cool factor is a very important feature in floating bluetooth speakers. And this isn’t surprising since magnetic levitation isn’t too common in households yet. If you were looking to surprise your friends or complement your interior with an eye-catching piece, a levitating speaker is a very nice item to do so with.
